Pool Building Questions, Answered

Real answers on cost, timelines, permits, and process from a builder with 19+ years and 400+ pools across the Phoenix Valley.

How much does a custom pool cost in the Phoenix area?

Most new custom builds land between $55,000 and $120,000 depending on size, finishes, and features — a basic pool starts around $40,000, and large projects with extensive hardscape can run well beyond that. Remodels typically range from $5,000 to $100,000. The honest number for your yard comes from a free on-site consultation, not a website.

How long does it take to build a pool?

Once permits are approved, most builds take 8 to 12 weeks from excavation to swim-ready. Permitting and engineering add several weeks up front depending on your city. Weather, inspections, and change orders are the usual sources of delay — we walk you through a realistic timeline for your city before anything is signed.

Is the design consultation really free?

Yes — the on-site consultation and estimate are completely free. Aquatic Pool & Spa walks your actual yard, talks through what you want, and scopes the project in person. The photorealistic 3D design is a separate paid step later in the process, and it is worth the wait — you see your exact backyard rendered before we break ground.

What does the building process look like?

Consultation and estimate first, then design, engineering, and permits. The build itself runs: yard leveling and demo, excavation, steel and plumbing, the gunite shell, structures and hardscape, landscaping and lighting, then the interior finish and fill. You get a clear payment schedule tied to those stages — never money for work that has not happened.

Do you handle permits and HOA approval?

Yes. We handle engineering and city permitting across the Phoenix Valley, and we prepare what your HOA needs for approval. Every city is a little different — that experience is baked into the timeline we quote you.

What areas do you serve?

We build across the Phoenix Valley — Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Chandler, Goodyear, Buckeye, Tempe, Mesa, and the surrounding area. If you are nearby but not listed, call — odds are we cover you.

Do you remodel existing pools?

Yes — remodels are a big part of what we do, from resurfacing and tile to full transformations with added spas, ledges, and hardscape. A 20-year-old pool is usually a great candidate. Remodels typically run $5,000 to $100,000 depending on scope.

Is financing available?

Yes, financing is available — plenty of our clients build now and pay monthly. Ask during your consultation and we will point you at the options that fit your project size.

Gunite, fiberglass, or vinyl — what do you build?

We build gunite (concrete) pools. In Arizona heat and soil, gunite is the durable choice, and it is the only one that gives you a fully custom shape, ledges, and integrated spas. It costs more than a drop-in shell, and it is what a pool that lasts decades is made of.

How soon should I start if I want to swim by summer?

Work backwards: 8 to 12 weeks of construction plus several weeks of design, engineering, and permits means starting in fall or winter is how you swim by early summer. Build slots fill fastest in spring — the earlier you book the consultation, the better your timeline.
